help :)

My original research question was: How does one's economic or social background impact attitudes towards credit card usage and accumulation of debt?

I have not really been able to find very good sources and I was considering changing my research question to something more along the lines of: Will the new credit card act be beneficial or detrimental to our economy?

Let me know what you think.

Fire in the hole

hahaha im doing my research paper on marijuana and this guy just geeks me out. hes from canada is obviously supports legalizing marijuana. enjoy.

stupid...

stupid fever got me agian...being sick sucks...it doesn't feel good...

Just thought I say....

.... that I finally learn how to work this blog! (LOL).. I've been posting up my blogs INDEPENDENTLY from this "invite" or blog here. The blogs that I've posted had many questions, concerns, and complaints about the class and our writings. Coming here, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only struggling or having questions that are in need of answers. :)

Blogging and Sources

Well im finally contributing to the blog that we all have to but I honestly think my thoughts and feeling wont change for it. Yeah its a good way to gte some feed back from other peopke to help you otu but i never much like the idea of blogging or even blogging myself. Guess illl have to wait and see if that changes but i do have one question. Right now i only have four sources that i am currently using to help wiht these writing and was just wondering if im suppose to keep looking up for more sources then that cause having four does kinda sound small and not as helpful if i had maybe more. So im wondering if im suppose to keep looking for more as we go or just get a few more like six or so to use on my research paper.

Pondering...

So I think I am getting somewhere...maybe. Writing his ideas down and then trying to understand what they are saying is a bit easier, but interpretting them is not. I am not sure if I did the assignment for today correctly, but I tried to draw my own conclusions. I really did. No mere spewing of information for this lady.
This is becoming increasingly difficult....
I thought I had an idea as to where I wanted to go with this paper, but as a proceed, I am becoming more and more lost. Perhaps it is because I am focusing too much on Kant, however, he is supposed to be the basis for my own frame of reference, so arent I supposed to pick him apart.
He needs to speak in plain English (German). This would make things so much easier.
I need to step up on my reading. I have no time. I dont want to fall behind and be scrambling at the end. I think I need more help then I initially thought I did.
Oh well...so much for success.

Assignment Recursivity

Well I procrastinated on my assignment and now it's 1:11 in the morning. I also did my last assignment wrong, I used both of my sources to create a inquiry paper. Although I did my last assignment wrong, I still learned from it that it's very hard to come up with a clear conclusion that makes sense when I only have two sources to back me up.

Tip: Many sources combined together really help create a good conclusion.

Thursday, February 25, 2010

So I went back through the paraphrasing assignment, and talked about how two of my sources frame issues in my research. I basically came to one conclusion that my resources are biased, and that is what could change the outcome of my research the most. So that's really all, I added to the last assignment and came to the conclusion that sources are biased.

Assignment for Friday

Does anyone else have a hard time writing these smaller assignments? I guess by smaller assignments, I mean the ones leading up to our research paper, where we are analyzing and discussing our sources. I keep finding relevant information, but I don't know how to put it down on paper, explain it and discuss how it's going to be useful in my final paper. I have pages of notes and my articles printed out filled with highlighting and more notes, but I am having a hard time actually writing the paper. Any suggestions? Or similar concerns?

Or maybe you're all already playing the English 102 Drinking Game on this Thirsty Thursday and don't really care about the homework??

source length

Most of my sources that I'm finding on my topic (free speech) that are any good are very long as long as 60 to 70 pages. Is everyone elses sources this long?

Anyone in the same boat as I am?

"

For example, I gave the example earlier of the student who has the following research question: Why has extremist religion become such a problem?
And she has stated that she plans to use the ideas of philosopher Immanuel Kant, from one of his famous essays on religion, in order to analyze “extremist” Christianity or Islam. That is how she plans to generate answers to her research question.
This will lead her, when she is ready, to her statement of controlling purpose which will appear in the introduction of her Research Essay:
“In this essay I will analyze the rise of extremist Islam in the modern world using the Kant’s ideas about religion in order to understand what social, economic, and cultural factors fuel religious extremism.”
" Here is me quoting the instructor from an email, I believe everyone should have received.

It is apparent that her topic is extremist religion.

Here's where my part comes in....

I am writing on video game addiction, specifically MMORPGs, games like World of Warcraft for those of you who have no idea what MMORPG means.

I am not going to spend time talking about this, I know a lot of you really don't give two craps about what I have to say about my topic.

Anyways, I am still on the phase of just having my topic, video game addiction. In what I quoted above, this writer is using the "philosopher Immanuel Kant" to explain her topic.
Pretty much what I am getting at is that I just have my topic, I do not have my Immanuel Kant yet. Yes I have sources, but none of them can be used in a bigger picture like Kant is.
Damn, that sounded a lot better in my head, hope it makes sense to some of you.

Does anyone have their controlling purpose yet? Is it a good idea to get a source with a sociological or psychological background to assist us in inquiry? ...Inquiry, like all of us know exactly what that means now.

Anyone around the same level of progress as I am?

So i realized...

That I'm a part-time employee at my shit job and they have me scheduled 42 hours next week....does that make sense?

Killer Whales

A killer whale at Seaworld killed a trainer the other day. I think animal captivity could be a great research topic for someone. You could discuss different viewpoints from citizens, trainers, zookeepers and more to discuss humans capturing animals for studies. You then could share a new option, different from zoos or leaving animals in the wild, such as in the wild observations, as a better way for animal studies.

Research Topic;

Ok, so I kind of have an idea of what I want to research and write about, but I'm not sure how I can make it into academic inquiry material.

My possible research questions are mostly in "argumentative mode" which I know it's not supposed to be, but I'm hoping I can find a way to work around the topic that I have. Here's what I'm aiming towards:

The risks of taking medication or going under medical surgeries vs. The risks of going back and getting healed the "natural way" (meaning through herbs etc.)

I often find myself going off topic when I'm writing about this, because I'll start off talking about how herbs are good for you and blah blah blah, and that taking medicine is good too, BUT the only difference is that they aren't as healthy as the herbs since they contain some type of chemical or whatever in it. With that being said, I plan on using a Doctor's article as a source to demonstrate the effects of taking medication instead of going all natural.

Dinner

I think all the English 102 classes should meet up and we can have a potluck or meet up at a restaurant. It would be fun to meet other English 102 students and there would be a plus, we would also be eating food. Who doesn't like food? If anyone would have ideas of meeting up anywhere comment this post. Well goodnight everyone and hugs and kisses David Waite.

English 102 Remix

English 102 is a lot like music remixes. Taking another persons writing and using it to make your own idea. This is much like an artist takes a song and creates their remix.

Here's my favorite remix:

Boring topic but I dont give a shit

My topic is the View of George Washington as a leader and military strategist. I have found a few sources on this and have a good base. I am trying to show how that Americans believe that he was this supreme like commander whom never made mistakes. He did and thats what i am going to use my research question. Anybody got any ideas on this exciting research topic? Always remember-Brett Favre sucks and Aaron Rodgers is better. Thanks
So i have noticed every single post is about the research paper, which is fine and interesting to see what every one is writing about, but i didn't feel like posting about that since that is what i will be writing about for the next few weeks. So instead i thought everyone should watch the music video of " 500 miles" by the proclaimers. It is one of the most repetitive videos the same guy, and i do have to say he is looking might fine. bahahaha

Topic..

I was thinking about doing my subject on the effects of cell phones to society...maybe teenagers/college students if the first one is too broad.

NBA moving

My topic is as follows: I'm trying to understand whether or not the business moves that the NBA makes are for the greater good of the league or just to create more money for the owners and David Stern. There are some sources for it, but it isn't a subject that is as popular as abortion, so there aren't many sources that aren't flat out biased or irrelevant to what I am trying to do.

The Oil Age

I'm not sure if anyone is researching alternative energies for cars, but I happened to hear a great quote someone could use if it fits their topic.

"The stone age didn't end because people ran out of stones. I hope that the oil age ends, not because we ran out of oil, but because we found something better."

Other

So I have talked to other people in English 102 classes and they still reading scholarly pieces from authors and critically interpreting them. I would just like to shed light on how nice it is that we have already kind of started our research papers.

So I'm really bored and this started bugging me....

...so like the argument for global warming is that we emit too muich CO2....right...like from our cars and shit....right? But when we exhale we emit....CO2 and water vapor(another greenhouse gas)....right? So how come we haven't blamed that on global warming? Like too many fat people huffing and puffing our atmosphere up with toxic gases...wouldn't 6 billion people exhaling and all the animals exhaling create more CO2 then our cars?

Emails

There is only 1 specific email I want in my inbox. The approval of my internship application. Everything else can be put in the trash.

Reider Participating

Not sure what we are supposed to be doing on here. Just gonna check in and post a blog about my hecktik life right now. I am currently living in Green Bay to pursue a career in hockey. We practice for four hours 5 days a week. I am taking 4 online courses and trying to juggle family, hockey, and school. I am also a sponsored snowboarder and spent the first two weeks of this course in Sweden. Thus, I have fallen quite far behind, especially in this course. The first two papers are very confusing to me and any help, or hints would be greatly appreciated.

I guess this is participating in the blog

To be honest, I'm not really into this whole blog thing but I'll participate because I want to get a good grade so I won't have to take this class again (that would really suck!!!). I'm pretty positive I am doing my research topic on the ethics of China's One Child Policy. It might sound kinda boring or some people might not know much about it but its kinda interesting. Well...I guess thats it. Have an awesome day everyone!

umm yeah

So yeah basically 19 credits is consuming my lifeeee. but if you work hard you play hard and someday i plan to be a architect. so eyah, dont really have time to be chillin on this blog asking for opinions right meow. :-) hope everyone has a good day!

5 o'clock AM

So right now I can honestly say that I am writing in this blog because we have to. I was working on my assignment for this morning when my computer spontaneously shut down and word refust to let me open the autosave copy. This was at 3:30 this morning.
It is re-written and I think that I am starting to have some progress with my understanding of Kant (thanks to the help of sparknotes) but also to having to use quotes because if forced me to really try to understand what he was saying. It helped me to absorb some of his ideas which I am greatful for. With that being said, I think we should have no homework for Friday, because I am exhausted and could use an actual night of sleep.
But this was a good assignment, despite my issues writing it. Kant is getting a little bit easier to understand, but I am still not sure how I am going to piece everything together. Oy....

Sources

As I am evaluating the sources I have so far I seem to be finding more useful information in news articles and other journals and articles most relavant to my topic. I haven't searched many book sources yet although I plan to spend a few hours in the library later this week finding sources in books and other library materials.

Are the rest of you having more luck using sources you found online like articles, journals, newspaper, magazine, etc or books?

I am also wondering if we are required to have sources from multiple different types of sources such as some sources from books, some found online, some from articles and journals, etc. or if we should just focus on using the most relevant and up to date sources that focus on our topics.

I seem to be having more luck using sources with shorter information that is up to date and to the point such as recent articles, news, and opinion essays but I am open to exploring other sources as well.

Well, he said we could write about a youtube video.

There is a very controversal youtube video that you have to be a member to see, but someone told me about it, and chuckled. I dont know if any one else has seen it, but it definetly wasn't funny. It took place on a city bus, and I think that it's a fine example of modern day racism. An old white guy asked a young african american man how much it would cost for him to "shine his shoes". Understandably so, the young man began a fight, calling the old guy racist, and taking the first swing. The old racist, claiming "self defense" unexpectantly pounds the young man's face several times. Blood was dripping down his face, and the old man just hopped off of the bus. The entire incident was caught on camera, and as a frequent bus rider, it was down right scary to watch! However, the comments about the video mostly defend the old white guy, it was just disgusting. Has any one else seen this?

Success!

Just finished my assignment for Wednesday and I'm feeling a lot better about my project than before.

Writing the assingment for tomorrow

Hey, I need help getting other students perspectives on mass media connected with politics. Feel free to comment. Left-wing or right-wing I don't really care. Just want some ideas to research

ignorant people

I hate them. So im down here in the lower level computer lab trying to do this assignment and there are just so many people that just need to shut up or at least talk softer. They are 3 feet away from you but yet people feel the need to shout i dont know if they think that they feel that they will be taken more serious or if they are that desperate to be heard by everyone in the room. I can understand people being loud but not in places where people are trying to study and do homework. Go outside go to your room just not by me. Well thats my little blurb on ignorant people

research topic

So i have a topic in mind which is media and adolescent violence, does anyone have an idea for a question that i can base my paper on? Plus if you have other ideas please let me know, thanks.

AHHHH

Ok, so I am really stressed out! But actually am liking this assignment. Is anyone finding alot of sources? I found a couple really good dissertations, UWM students actually. Pretty cool. It is crazy to read peoples ideas on how they believe nature ties into healthcare, and why its so thereaputic. But I do not know, I feel I have different takes on the whole idea of nature being incorporated into health care settings and therapy sessions. I mean do ALL patients really want or even NOTICE, I dont know....

STRESSED OUT

So i have changed my topic like 5 times now and each time i change it and try to find sources on it, i never seem to find enough sources or find anything thats useable! i'm ready to change my topic to something totally different and unrelated to my old topics! I should not be this stressed out when we havent even started writting the paper yet! This will be my first homework assignment that i havent completed because i cant find any sources long enough to write about! ughh if any one has any intresting topics let me know!

Writing Grants

I think its great when you are able to take knowledge you've learned in a class and apply it to other areas of your life. English 102 has simply made me write, and by doing so I feel I have increased my writing abilities. I recently wrote two grants for Scuba Club here at the University. One is to raise money to travel to a Scuba Convention in Las Vegas, and the other will create funds to purchase new equipment. Both of these grants combined will raise over $2000 for the club. Last semester I raised $2600 by writing a similar grant. I can tell that by taking English 102 I have improved my grant writing abilities, which I know will result in a better outcome for fundraising.

Research topic

So I've been doing a lot of research into my topic but now I've become a little weary about writing on stereotypes in Disney, because I found two great books that I was reading through and they discuss the portrayal of females in Disney eyes. I think that would be interesting and a lot of fun but I need some input... So comment your inputs they will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Does anyone have any good ideas on what I could narrow my research down to. I want to focus on obesity but not sure if I want to focus on "in America" or "Childhood?"

google or yahoo?

guys do you think Google enough in the search process? or should i use also yahoo?

so i've been researching...

and all of my sources seem to say that marijuana has little to no harmful side effects. How can something so safe be illegal? cigarettes cause 443600 deaths every year. you know how many deaths have occurred from smoking marijuana? zero. Yet its legal to buy something thats worse for you? that seems to make no sense at all.

Busy

Much too busy writing my paper to be blogging-but which is more important?

Abortion or Sex Education

So, i've decided between two topics: my original topic of abortion or sex education in schools. I'm kind of torn between the two but i'm leaning more towards sex education in schools. Thats my topic choices that i'm stuck in.
But, this weekend i drove home to see my little brother and sister and take them shopping and i got some pretty amazing clothes. And a new pair of super cute running shoes, which i might try out tonight.
I also got sick this weekend. And missed mondays classes because i couldn't get out of bed (i was that sick) but now i feel better.
Ugh, i have a ton of things i need to do this week: get new tires for my car, pay my cell bill, clean out my car, pick up my puppies, and possibly some stress relieving online shopping.
OMG! Bad Girls Club is on tonight! I'm pretty pumped. I love me some bad girls :)

ok so...

Is anyone else still completely lost on what to right about for this final paper?

topic

so i decided to write my paper on immigration to the united states but im not really sure its a good topic because i think that im going to end up making an argumentive paper instead of coming with up with "academic inquiry"

i need help! well just trying to see what else i could relate this too and how to start the paper. i have NOO idea wat is going to be my controlling purpose.. im actually debating this topic. so if anyone wants to help, i would really appreciate it.

Pointless

I really wish I had a story to tell about something that happened this week. But really all of my stories are so inappopriate, or really no one would find them funny. A lot of them are simply "you had to be there stories". But I would like to say that Natalija Babicic was suppose to do English with me and she ditched me. Also my friend Nick and I spent three and a half hours defecting my computer from Security Tool. It's a viscious virus! And totally ate my computer, but now its all fixed :]. Anyways, can it be Thursday yet ;].

Confused

I want to do a topic that has to do with children with divorced parents and sports..and trying to bring the two together somehow, does this question sound good? Why do competitive sports affect children with divorced parents? is it just any easy answer question?

Biggest mouth ever....

So, you know how everyone thinks they have a special trait, but somewhere down the road you always find someone that can do it a little bigger, and a little better... my best friend always thought she had the biggest mouth, but after finding this, she realized she is just average.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EvH5LQAYl0
I am very anxious in starting my final paper because I am tired of all these little writing assignments leading up to the big one. I just want to start writing and get on with it..lol. Hopefully it will be time soon...

question????

If anybody would care to answer this please!! Thanks!!!

Which topic would be more interesting to write about?

How writing effects writers, specifically focusing on depression and suicide,

or

Why do women who are abused by their significant other always seem to forgive them and go back to them?

SURVEY - Credit Cards: For or Against them?

I decided that the question I will be attempting to answer is: How does one's economic or social background impact attitudes towards credit card usage and accumulation of debt?

Just to get a feel as to which direction to turn, I ask..

Credit Cards: For or Against them and why?

If you could just give a few points to support your response that would be great :) THANKS!
Where are these labeled categories the blog is supposed to have?? I'm not seein' them.

Also, when might grades start being posted for weekly assignments?

She Called Me A Douche!

A couple days ago I was talking to a girl at the bus stop, mainly because I was bored and had just missed the bus I should have been on, so I had some time to kill. After complaining how pissed I was that we had to wait out in the cold so much, we switched to a different topic. The girl looked down at her phone, and then she said, “awe that sucks”, I said, “what sucks” ( I should have just kept my mouth shut). She starts talking about how horrible the situation in Haiti is, and how much more she thought we as a nation should help Haiti more... my argumentative side showed up.

OK so before I start talking and pissing everyone off just as much as I pissed this girl off I have to say a few things. I am writing my English Paper on Foreign Diplomacy, and I haven’t really fine tuned down the specific purpose yet, but what I have gotten so far is that the U.S. does a freaking lot. Now, any humanitarians who are reading this I want to put at ease right now. I believe that EVERYONE should have the right to live a good life, and I personally have already put myself through four engagements over seas in the military, whether you believe that I was being humanitarian or not is up to you. I joined the Army to save American lives, not necessarily the Americans in America, but if I killed an Iraqi that could potentially kill countless other soldiers I was ok with that. I am a socialist at heart, I wish that everyone could learn how to play fair, but this is a dog eat dog world.

So this girl mentioned Haiti, and how deplorable the situation still is in Haiti, and that now since it has been a month or so since the earthquake, the situation has kind of settled in the back of peoples heads. I looked at her, and I had to ask, “ do you really think we should be over there?” She looked at me like I was the scum of the earth, like I had just killed a baby with a wet sponge shoved down its throat with a hot spoon. As soon as I saw that reaction I started trying to like, make it seem less horrible than how it came out. I explained to her that we have one of the biggest economic disasters we have had in a long time, we have millions of people who are unemployed, and literally spent billions of dollars to stall the depression. On top of doing all of that we have two war fronts one in Afghanistan, and another in Iraq, and a possible third in Iran. So, when Haiti had it’s disaster we sent troops that we are paying to activate and send to Haiti to keep the peace, then of course the medical help, the water, and aid that we sent cost us even more money, spent our gas, and used our tax dollars. Like I said I want to help people, but how can the U.S. in a matter of days go and help or relieve in a matter of a couple months help rebuild an entire country, but we have to fight tooth and nail to just make living comfortable for four million people. Why do I have to be a big brother to every country but my own, why is it that I am the one expected to dish out the tax dollars to take out dictators who don’t dictate my own country. I explained all of this to her, and she was still looking at me like I was the one who had killed all of those people in Haiti. I looked at her and said, “ look, you can hate me all you want, but if you love people so much you might wanna try loving the people who are still alive, four million people living in poverty, or 200,000 who are dead and could care less.

The Big Brother Policy:
the Big Brother Policy said that the most Powerful nations had a responsibility to help those countries who are in need and cannot help themselves. I want everyone to recognize something. We as a nation are in need, in some ways we have more need than a lot of so called “lesser nations”. We are also not necessarily always helping these nations either, Iraq, Afghanistan, Hawaii, and Germany, these nations, all of them, we have “helped”, then afterwards guess what happens, we put up an embassy bring in some companies to help with the effort and now the U.S. has another foothold on the rest of the world.

I tried explaining all of this stuff to this girl, I wish I knew her name so that I could apologize, and at least tell her that I did not want to offend her. but at the same time I have the same beliefs.
Americans Need to start learning how to fuck off, leave other countries alone, they are not ours. If we are not going to take them over, if they don’t physically ask us to help, leave them alone! It is a simple request, I am tired of seeing congress make laws, and then those laws being ratified without any consent from the general public. I would have wanted a say when we went to war with Iraq, I would have wanted a say when we ratified the stimulus bill, I want a say how we deal with other nations. If we are the strongest nation, it is only because of the people who are within the nation, and I am tired of supporting the poorest Nations without supporting the poorest Americans, and I hate supporting people who don’t ask our help to begin with.

If anyone has any rebuttals or responses that they would like to add I would enjoy getting them, if you are going to just call me a douche please tell me why, and if anyone has any sources that they are thinking of when they read all of this give me a list lol anything that could help me figure some things out or give me a fresh perspective would be awesome
thanks
Today I went through a short source that I had gotten off of Google. I wrote two pages from the source by paraphrasing, and also put in a couple of quotes from it. It seemed to go pretty well and did not seem to hard, but it was a short source and easy to read through. I think as long as I get a couple of scholarly sources and a couple of books, that my research paper shouldn't be to hard. The longer sources I have will probably be more challenging to get through, and read through all the information, but I guess that I will find out soon.

Topic

So my research topic is Marijuana. The history, uses, hemp products, crime related to it, legalization, and its future. I was just wondering what people have to say about marijuana, whether you know someone who has benefited from its medicinal purposes or you know someone who it a casual user. what are your ideas about legalizing? Should it be legalized for recreational use? What do you think would happen if it was legalized?

WTF???

So I've been researching different types of sources for my research topic. (Social implications on viagra) All I can find is stuck up, boring, factual filled pages. I'm starting to think to myself f
*ck this topic. The only problem is I don't wanna re-research some bull...Where should I look to find better sources with more info? Or does this topic suck?

research paper idea

I am doing my research paper on the superior athletic performance of people from African decent. This topic is very controversial and it has not had a lot of main stream research done because it is so controversial. There are a lot of components that need to be thought about when dealing with this topic. Things that I will be evaluating are Africans anthropology, sociology, ethnohistory, and genetics. I think this is a good research topic because there has not been a lot of research that is public knowledge done in this area. A lot of racial assumptions have been made, but I am determined to analyze the reasons why African Americans are athletically dominant compared to the European American.

A point of interest

I am doing my research paper on a topic that is kind of boring. I am doing it on Invasive Species and Bacteria in the Great Lakes. I'm writing this because I feel it has a lot of good information on a topic that people don't really know a lot about. Also because I think whoever reviews it is going to have a good time reading about something that interests me but doesn't necessarily interest many other people, which usually means they aren't very familiar with the topic. I really just wanted to do something that no one in the English 102 class would do.

RESEARCH QUESTION HELP!!!

I AM DOING MY FINAL PAPER ON WHAT CULTURAL OR SOCIAL FACTORS MAKE SOMEONE WANT TO BE A HEAD MOB BOSS AND I'M GOING TO BE USING AL CAPONE AS AN EXAMPLE...IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS TO HELP ME FURTHER DEVELOP A RESEARCH QUESTION IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
just seeing if this blog publishes

essay sources

What's up guys, just lettin everyone know what I am thinking on my essay. The only idea I started with was that I wanted to write on Marijuana. My teacher last semester told me that it was a bad topic and I should change it. Now that I actually have learned things, I realize that it's definitely a topic that could be elaborated on. Now I've developed my paper's idea into an analysis of the effects legalization of marijuana would have on the pharmaceutical industry. I am not entirely sure on if that is the best route, but I have found many sources I think I could use. Here is one that I found:

Adverise health Effects of Non-medical cannabis use. by William Tormey.

In this paper Tormey analyzes another study that showed that non-medicinal use of marijuana can trigger a rare myocardial infarction. I understand that this is one viewpoint, but I feel obligated to respond to this by saying that there were definitely flaws to the experiment. One example is that there were 124 marijuana-smoking patients in the experiment. More than half of them were also cigarette smokers. Part of me wants to not use this source because it seems like a crappy experiment. I think it could be useful in leading into the possible risks and dangers importing marijuana into legal pharmaceuticals could impose.

Here's another source I found:

Dr. Kush (lol) by David Samuels

This is an article focused on the medical marijuana in California. It profiles the different growers and companies that promote the distribution. After reading this, I feel that I need to specify my research topic a little further. I think that will be easier after I read more sources for more ideas. This article is really good for my topic because it gives a glimpse of what legalizing medicinal marijuana would do for the country. I could use the states like California as an example of the flaws and benefits legal marijuana brings, specifically on pharmaceuticals.

Subject

I've decided that I am going to write about obesity. My question is weather obesity is influenced by genetics or by personal choice? I have found sources that support both sides and I have my own opinion on the matter as well. If anyone has anything to add to help out, it would be appreciated. :)

English 102

My topic is about radical religion and terrorism. I want to look into what has changed in many radical religions that has made violence and terrorism such an issue in current society. Are there any other interesting things I could possibly expand on?

My Topic and A Question About Contolling Purpose

I've decided to do my topic on prisons in the United States, specifically incarceration rate. My research question is: Why Does the United States Lead the World In Highest Incarceration Rate?

I plan to tie in research from various sources and use academic inquiry to further my understanding of this topic and try to answer my own question about why our country leads the world in highest incarceration rate. I feel this is an interesting topic and relevant to all of our lives because we all live in a country that is becoming a prison nation and has more of its citizens locked up than any other country in the world.

My question is on how to decide what my controlling purpose should be. In many of the examples we have read in class the authors are responding to other peoples works in order to "do" something with their writing and further their own understanding of a certain topic. For example, Rickert primarily responds to the ideas and works of Deleuze and Zizek to formulate his ideas and thoughts and accomplish his controlling purpose of his writing. Rickert also uses a few other sources to further examine the writing classroom in a post-oedipal world. Goleman responds primarily to Rickerts work, however she uses other sources to further elaborate on her thoughts and research. My question is, how do we go about determining what our controlling purpose should be? As I stated my research question is, why does the U.S lead the world in highest incarceration rate. Would it be best to pick one source or idea or concept and then use that to research and examine the research question in order to forumlate my controlling purpose? Is it better to use a variety of sources to come to one central idea or theme?

I am having a hard time understanding how to go about formulating my controlling purpose and tying it to my research question, I don't really know where to start. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks, have a good night

Don't forget to post for this week!

Well I'm using this blog to blog about my other two blogs for other classes that will remain nameless. So lets see this weeks blog should be something Political incorrect with politics today. Yeah, boring I know! but thats what we're told to blog about weekly uninteresting things going on in the world around us. Last week it was something that we found interesting from past elections, and don't forget the graphs.

English 102

MWF 10AM class:

Let's hope we actually learn something tomorrow in class? Or maybe we will end up listening to a select few talk all but ten of the fifty minutes and waste my time once again...

Call of Duty

now that me and my friend both have Call of Duty i can already tell that i'm not going to get very much done for the rest of the semester, great haha

my research

I'm doing my research on tying in white privilege and how our society view schizophrenics. It all traces back to social stigma, which is completely created by out assumptions of others. Are you aware that there is no lab test for schizophrenia and is just accused or assumed? Just as race is something made up be economic differences. There are actually more differences in genes between siblings than there are between a white man and a black man? what are we doing to ourselves...

Question :)

I think I have FINALLY decided on a question. How does one's economic or social background impact attitudes towards credit card usage and accumulation of debt. Let me know what you think of this. Should I maybe decided between economic background or social background? Or do you think those could tie nicely together? Help would be appreciated :)

Abortion

So....I wanted to do my paper on Abortion and if the fetus has rights to life but i don't know how to make it inquiry driven. I seriously need help because i'm so unsure what to do at this point. Maybe i should switch my paper to "whether abortion is immoral?" I don't know.

Research Question

I'm doing my paper on censorship and political correctness. But I'm still having trouble deciding on my research question. I can't decide what specifically I want to talk about.

Frustration

I am completely frustrated with this whole research paper. I thought that actually having a topic I enjoyed learning about would help move this whole process along, but it has not. Attempting to read Kant is incredibly difficult and perhaps a bit mind numbing??(only because I seem completely unable to comprehend what he is saying). My other source is unavailable at the library and now I have to consider buying it and that is depressing. But I am complaining too much. Despite a few drawbacks I do think I have started to develop a few of my own ideas about my topic. This makes me happy. And now I am going to go and study for my A and P exam. YAY!

My Contribution to the Blog.

I am doing my shit on global warming.

The end.

Topic :)

I decided to write my final paper on whether or not psychiatrists are making america depressed. I'm big on psychology and depression affects almost every person in some way so I thought it would affect a wide audience. I still haven't gotten the whole grasp on how to write for this class, so I'm hoping I don't start to write an informative or argument paper. I hope the information in the next couple weeks prevents me from doing that.
So I have decided to write my final portfolio on serial killers; the reason they do it- what brain imbalances they have, but also if out media has any impact on it. I'm just wondering if mine is going to be able to flow just because I want to include both the media and the science behind it?

Movie ideas...

For my paper I wanted to write about the UN thier attempts to intervene during civil wars such as Somalia, or the countries which used to be yugoslavia. However, if anyone has any suggestions I always find that it helps to watch a few documentaries or movies, so if anyone has any suggestions for any UN related movies that would be wonderful.

hmmmm....

just posting something for the homework...thats all...

Sources

So I found a couple of sources on google scholar that have a lot of information, and I feel at this point should be helpful for my paper. I'm still not for sure on what my controlling purpose is yet for my paper, and still don't have a full sense of English 102 writing style. It has been a little tough so far with the whole English 102 research paper, finding sources but I still have not gone to any library yet, so I feel once I find some books that things will get a little easier. With more direction and understanding of English 102, writing this paper should hopefully not be to hard.

Draft

Okay, so I'm sort of a sports freak and I can't wait for the draft. I can't wait to see where Bradford, Clausen, Tebow, Darrell Clark, and Colt McCoy go. Tebow to Jags, Clausen to Chiefs, Bradford to MIN, and Colt to Rams.

NBA

This is sort of part of my topic, so I think the NBA is starting to suck. Stern and the owners continue to try to expand the NBA to the point of where every arena is a palace and if the city that the team is in, doesn't want to tax the people of the city to raise funds for the arena, that team could be moved. It happened to the Sonics just under two years ago and it will only continue. This is really relevant to this city because the Bucks aren't in as a huge, profitable city as teams such as the Lakers or the Knicks and there are much larger and attractive cities that want teams, so this can be happening sooner than some think. I find it funny that Stern wants the arenas to be something of a city in itself, but wants to cut salaries of players and make the minimum age limit increase. Does he not know that the younger players bring fans in? Nobody wants to see a 30 year old rookie.

X Box 360

If anyone has an X Box 360 and wants to play CODMW3 my gamer tag is dwaite1254....
Having never "blogged" before, it may take me while to get used to this. I feel it is going to be a bit confusing at first, but I should get used to it. It took me about 15 min just to figure out how to post.

just fixing some this dont pay attention

it said i have to save my posts I didn't do that for my first post. This thing is gonna be difficult for me I can already tell!

my topic

ok don't think of me as crazy lol but I want to write about serial killers. Seriously like the mind thought they have is obv messed up. I'm trying to really look into why and what triggers them to do these actions.

did anyone else go to the Pink Floyd laser light show?

that show was amazing. haha

First Timer Writing

So this is my first time posting something here...I really don't understand why or what this is for or what to exactly write about. I think I finally have an idea as to what I want to do my research paper on...I just have not figured out how to frame it yet. That's what I plan on accomplishing today and then find sources and write how to use them (?) Funnnnn.

Grrr.

ok, sooo ... i guess we're supposed to be writing in here and at this point, i'm quite confused as to what I'm supposed to be doing. I mean, i have an idea of what i want to research, but then again; i don't know. -___-"

Assignment for Monda

I just finished my assignment for Monday and Im feeling pretty confident about one of the sources I wrote about. I believe I can really make use of this article. I'm just hoping I can find more like this one. YYYAAAAHHHHHH
