Shanks and Sh*t!lol

Shanks blog is pretty friendly, he presents his ideas as if he's blogging for people he knows. His writing is still illustrated in a form of academic inquiry because he analyzes and discusses his findings (research) and he shows that he knows what he's talking about. Shanks blog is more of a internet classroom where he displays real life examples to students, in a sense to give them a more close up image of things going on vs. the formal lecture hall with hundreds of students. His website is displayed to match his personality, while his posts seem to do the same. It lacks professionalism but this could be because it's just a blog, because he's an archaeolgist and not a website designer, and his writings would probably be displayed different if he was writing a paper instead.

Dooce's blog is more personal vs shanks which is more educational. Her blog is about her life and it is presented to inform people of what she does. Dooce's blog was also more appealing to the eye due to the fact that she's a housewife and she probably has more time on her hands than shanks. Nevertheless, both blogs are about what they do. They are both interesting, and they both help out the careers of the authors.
