Hi everybody,
I said that I would post a posting in the Blog for my face to face students to use to post their "check-ins." (Online students are doing their "check-ins" in their discussion forum in D2L). So please "comment" on this posting with your accounting of what you have written in the last few days. I will post another one of these for Thursday's check-in.
Some of you have already written blog postings which account for the writing you've done, and that's fine-- you won't need to write another.

So far i have done very very little writing. The one thing that i am hesitant about is that well for one i do not know my exact academic question that i want to pursue. I am hoping that when i talk to you (Adam) it will clear alot of things up for me well i hope at least
ReplyDeleteWell, so far; I've narrowed my research question down a bit. & since I had just got the email you sent about writing about our sources in order to meet several of the course goals, I'm now working on how to begin my paper with the sources I have.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to have a print out of what I have written so far for my conference tomorrow.
Last night and today I have been researching for more sources I can use to help me out. I'm working on finalizing my controlling purpose and have wrote the introduction to my paper.
ReplyDeleteI have about 5 pages done so far. I thought that I had a decent start but I deleted some of my work and added a new introduction. I feel like I have got a controlling purpose, but I am happy with how it is framed. I plan on organizing my paper by Thursday.
ReplyDeleteSo far I have written a couple of pages, but feel a little lost still. I'm still not sure if my question is an academic question or not. I will continue writing and hope to get four pages written soon.
ReplyDeleteI have written very little of my research paper. I'm still feeling quite lost and confused on this whole new idea of a research paper and academic inquiry thing. Hopefully after face to face confrences I'll have more of an idea and actually know where to begin with this paper because I just simply want it over and done with.

ReplyDeleteStarting my paper was a bit difficult because introductions are always hard for me to come up with. I get confused and always think back to how in high school the introduction is all about grabbing the audience's attention. Because of that, and because I know that I'm suppose to have a controlling purpose, I get frustrated and just write what comes to mind that seems to make sense which does not always.
ReplyDeleteMy paper is starting off okay. I did realize that I summarized a lot of my sources before using them but the question is if I summarized them correctly. While writing, I also began to question if my topic is even an inquiry after reading it more and more.
My goal for now is to figure out how to write about my sources and from there turn it into an inquiry. I think this will be my biggest challenge but it should be interesting.
I've specified my topic to examining several matrilineal societies in or to determine what steps the U.S.A can use in order to create better equality. I still have six books to read threw on top of the already seven read articles.
ReplyDeleteWell, I've half a dozen different word files on my computer all with different introductions, and none of them seem right. IDK how to start my paper. Ive tried with a quote, then with background information. This is always the hardest part of essays for me.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've pretty much just narrowed. My research topic which is going to be. "Mass mass media news connected with political agenda." But, I'm still debating whether it's going to be foreign political agenda. I have a basic idea of how I'm going to start my paper (which is the hardest part). But in doing so, I'm going to have to get more research articles on how the news played a role during the Vietnam war and how public support was affected by it.
ReplyDeleteso far i've focused more on doing research and finding good sources that will help me develop new ideas. my biggest problem is that i understand what we are suppose to do, but i don't know how to do it with my topic. i don't even know whats my controlling purpose yet, i was hoping that after talking in the conference this confusion would clear up. That would help me write my 8 page paper draft alot easier. hofully ill have the question and the introduction paragraph by friday (before my conference)

ReplyDeleteI have been really focused on my sources the last few nights...maybe a bit too focused. I have written a little bit but I keep erasing what I start because I keep thinking my ideas are wrong. I know that I wont know they are wrong until I get feedback on them, but this paper is turning out to be incredibly difficult to write. I am frustrated because I am unsure of how I want to use Kant because I am not completely sure of what he is saying. But then if I dont use him, how will I frame my essay. I keep changing my question in my head and ideas keep popping up, but they never last for long. I really should just start writing..but I feel rather disheartened by the whole project. I should get my ideas out and then look at my sources and try to understand how they work with my ideas and how they can help mold or shape them. I would feel more confident if I had written something significant so far. That should be my next task. But I had to work tonight so I am exhausted and going to bed. I will try tomorrow before work to get some actual writing done...something that I wont hit the backspace button on.
ReplyDeletei have written 5 pages and has gone into detail 4 of my resources and what they do in their source, and what is the source's main purpose and give examples and quotes to give as much information so that i can work of of what the source say.
ReplyDeleteim trying to incorporate the goals as much as possible but know i cant conquor all of them at the same time, so im mainly focusing on the first goal and second goal to have a starting point to my insight and new knowledge.
After our conference I had a slight change in the way my paper was written so I started over as of now I have about three pages, but I realized that's only an introduction and background knowledge, not source writing.
ReplyDeleteAfter my conference i have a much better understanding on how i need to go about writing my paper. i am in progress on writing my paper, i have 3 pages written so far, and i am still writing. i have a hard time writing intros and conclusions, but we have lots of time for me to fix those up.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten very far on my research paper, but I haven't had my conference yet, so I'm hoping that will help with getting it going. I'm still pretty confused on how I should be approaching my topic so that it is academic inquiry.
ReplyDeleteso since we just had our meeting.. i have inquired alot...i will begin to write my paper in the next few days regarding social stigma, schizophrenia, and white privilege with a little spive of neo paganism and social class... thanks! my confrence was very helpful!
ReplyDeleteso i havent gotten a lot of writing done...but i have many ideas that run around in my head about how i'm going to write about a source and relate it to...so tonight i'm going to get started since i dont work so late tonight...
ReplyDeleteSo far I'm working on my introduction, which is turning out to be a very slow process. For me its always harder get the paper started but once that happens my paper starts to flow. I'm hoping that the conference will help me make my intro better.
ReplyDeleteSo got I got about 3 pages into my writing when I later read how we should be writing this and focus on our sources. Now I see I have been doing it wrong and pretty much back at sqaure 1 starting over again. pretty much a slow go at it
ReplyDeleteWell so far i have my conclusion started, but I'm having a hard time putting it together. I know what i want to say, but i just can not quite get there yet. The intro is always the hardest part for me so once i get it down the rest should fall into place. I am hoping the conference can help my dilemma.
ReplyDeleteI'm not posting this on tuesday. But on tuesday I discovered that the uwm lybrary is one of the most confusing places i have ever been in my life. I couldn't find any of the books i was looking for.
ReplyDeleteI have started so far, and have recently not been able to write very creatively about anything yet. I tried using academic inquiry which to me is pretty much just giving my opinion.
